Ground-Line Concrete Pumps: The Contractor’s Field Manual

Ground-line concrete pumps—often called line pumps or trailer-mounted pumps—are the unsung heroes of today’s construction sites. By pushing concrete through a series of connected steel or flexible hoses laid on the ground, they deliver precise, low-slump mixes into footings, slabs, basements and high-rise decks without the need for a boom. Zoom GlobalMech Corp designs its ground-line units to handle everything from 0- to 8-inch slump concrete at pressures up to 2 000 psi, making them ideal for shotcrete, block-fill, sidewalk pours and even underwater placements.
Before the first cubic yard is batched, successful contractors walk the pipeline path and eliminate kinks, sharp bends or upward “camel-backs” that invite air locks. Hoses should be laid with a slight downward bias when possible; this lets gravity assist the pump and reduces line wear. Couplings must be tightened to the manufacturer’s torque spec—hand-tight is never enough. Finally, a water priming slug followed by a cement-lubricating grout is pumped to coat the inner wall, cutting friction by up to 30 % and preventing the first harsh aggregate from scouring a dry hose.
During the pour, keep the hopper at least one-third full to avoid sucking air, and watch the pressure gauge for sudden spikes—the classic early warning of a impending blockage. If pressure climbs 20 % above normal, reverse-pump immediately and then slowly move forward again; 90 % of jams clear in two or three cycles. After the placement, blow a sponge cleaning ball through the line with compressed water, then flush until the runoff is clear. Cap the ends to prevent rain or frost from freezing residue inside. Follow this simple field manual and your Zoom GlobalMech Corp ground-line pump will deliver decades of profitable, low-maintenance service.
